Vermillion

This photographic essay is an intention to explore the conflicting relationship humans have had with the natural world throughout time.
It sets out to discover our fragility as creatures, our fears and our strong attraction to the wilderness, with the intention to create a story, a line that touches several subjects with which we all can relate in today’s world.

Referencing various topics, such as the importance of nature, maternity, religious beliefs, the relevance of textiles, gender disparity, among others and using the colour red as a dominant, contrasting element, this body of work seeks to take the viewer through time and gently touch on different artistic references.
The red line then becomes that connecting piece that guides the story and also carries all of the emotional weight that builds up with time.
It is an attempt to question the way we relate with our history and most importantly, with the world.
